Find a trustworthy trader for home improvements

With so many options around, finding a trustworthy supplier can be overwhelming. Here’s a guide to finding the ideal home improvements trader to undertake your project.

Are they a member of Checkatrade.com?

One of your first steps should be to check if the home improvements trader you are considering is a member of Checkatrade.com. Checkatrade is the oldest online trade directory available and has been active since 1998.

To become a member of Checkatrade.com and receive a listing, interviews and background checks are required by members of the company to ensure that they are reputable traders.

Not only does Checkatrade.com tell you the accreditations and checks the trader has undergone, there are also a list of services and detailed reviews, so you can see how the trader rates in customer satisfaction.

We are proud members of Checkatrade.com and are delighted with the level of service we have provided for our customers over the years.

Check the trader’s credentials and insurance

You should check the home improvements trader’s credentials and trade licence to ensure that everything is up to date and legitimate. It’s also a good idea to check that the home improvements trader has sufficient insurance so that you aren’t held responsible for legal costs in the case of an injury or damages to your property.

We take the safety of our customers very seriously and are currently insured by iprism, with public liability insurance to the value of £5,000,000.

Ensure that agreements are put in writing

Unfortunately, people are caught out by dishonest home improvements traders when details of their contract are not put into writing. A trustworthy home improvements trader will not make you accountable for hidden costs that you didn’t know existed in the first place.

Nevertheless, it’s in your best interest to ensure exactly what the quote you’ve been given includes and is put down in writing, so you can’t be blindsided. Bear in mind that quotes are legally binding, unless extra work is agreed, or unforeseen circumstances occur. On the other hand, a cost estimate is just a guess and is not legally binding for the trader, so make sure that your price is agreed legally before proceeding.

We make sure to run through the entire process with you professionally and only provide honest quotes for our home improvement services from the initial consultation through to quoting and issuing the contract. We provide honest quotes for our home improvement services and would never hide any costs from our customers.
